FAQs

Why Manhattan Edit Workshop?

At MEWSHOP you can receive training on both Avid and Final Cut Pro, the post production industry's most utilized non-linear applications. You can meet and be advised by top editors in the field through our Artist in Residence program. And you can become a member of our Manhattan Edit Workforce program, which will expose your resume and reel to at least 15 post houses in NYC for employment consideration.

Editing is an art form.  And like any art career, it takes time, diligent work and tireless action to build a lucrative career.  At MEWSHOP you will develop the skills necessary to prepare you to work in the real world of post-production.

What does it mean to be certified?

Certification provides an official recognition of your skills. It is a way to differentiate yourself from the many people who use the applications to potential employers or clients.

Will I be certified after completing the course?

Our certified Apple and Avid courses are a great starting point on your path to certification and are designed to produce winning results on the certification exams.

Can I take the certification exam at your facility?

Certification exams are administered by appointment only. The FCP Level 1 exam is currently free for any student enrolled in one of our certified courses.  For those wishing to take the exam without taking a class, the exam cost is $150. To schedule an exam, please call 212.414.9570 or email us at contact@mewshop.com.

Do I need any prior editing or computer knowledge in order to take the course?

Our intro level courses as well as the Six Week Intensive, assume no prior knowledge of editing or software involved.  Previous experience is required for advanced courses. A basic working knowledge of the Macintosh Operation system will enhance your experience.  For those with no Mac experience, we recommend taking a basic introductory Macintosh computer class prior to your Manhattan Edit Workshop course.

Do you offer financial aid or scholarships?

As a small art school, one not associated with any universities or colleges, we are unable at this time to offer financial aid or scholarships for our courses.

Can I tour the facilities?

Prospective students are encouraged to visit out facilities to gain a sense of our program and space. Please call to make an appointment 212-414-9570.

Do I need to bring anything to class?

You should bring pen/paper for notes. We provide everything else.

How do I register for a course?

You may call us directly at 212.414.9570 and we will guide you through the registration process or complete the online registration form by clicking HERE. Your enrollment will be confirmed once payment is received and a confirmation email will be sent.

What is a valid form of payment?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX, money order and personal checks and cold hard cash.

Is the Artist in Residence event open to the public?

Our Artist in Residence Series is a free event, open to the public, and typically held the last Thursday of each Six Week Workshop. To receive information concerning this event, please join the newsletter.

Can I work with my own material in your workshops?

We provide the certified Apple and Avid course material for our week and weekend courses. Six Week students may bring in their own material to edit during the final two weeks of the course for inclusion on their reels.
