Our one-day course introduces the key roles and challenges that Assistant Editors face in both scripted and unscripted projects. Whether you're aiming to work in scripted TV, reality shows, or documentaries, you'll gain the essential skills needed to support a smooth editing process.
Through hands-on lessons, demos, and real-world practice, you'll learn standard industry workflows and best practices. Topics include proxy workflow, applying LUTs, media management, organizing projects, navigating the edit timeline, and handling multicam edits.
The class will cover the following topics:
Set up and format a new project tailored for proxy editing workflows
Recognize different external project types and supported file formats
Customize keyboard shortcuts and build personalized workspaces
Organize and import assets
Ingest footage, link media, and transcode for optimized performance
Generate proxy files and navigate the proxy editing process
Structure your project
Adjust clips and edit multicam content
Explore fundamental editing tools and core cutting techniques
Transition offline edits into online workflows
Perform up-resing, audio mixdowns, and relinking tasks
Export sequences and finalize projects for delivery

This class is designed for assistant editors, editors, post-PAs, and producers.
Prerequisites:
Prospective students should have taken our Blackmagic RES 101 or have equivalent knowledge of DaVinci Resolve.
Each student gets their own workstation.
