Emmy-Nominated “BEEF” Editor Lauren Connelly, ACE Joins Manhattan Edit Workshop as Artist in Residence for November Six Week Intensive

Manhattan Edit Workshop (MEWShop), one of New York’s premier destinations for post-production and professional editing education, is pleased to announce that Emmy-nominated film and television editor Lauren Connelly, ACE, will serve as Artist in Residence for the upcoming November Six Week Intensive, beginning November 9, 2026.

With the editing profession rapidly evolving through new technology, changing workflows, and the emergence of artificial intelligence, MEWShop’s Six Week Intensive is designed to give aspiring editors more than software training. The immersive program combines professional editing tools, storytelling, film theory, hands-on projects, industry workflow, career preparation, and direct access to working professionals to help students build the foundation needed to begin a career in post-production.

Early Bird pricing for the November Six Week Intensive is available through October 15th.

More Than Learning Editing Software

The Six Week Intensive is built for people serious about entering the post-production industry. Rather than focusing on a single application, students spend six weeks developing the combination of technical ability, storytelling instincts, professional workflow, and career skills expected of today's editors.

Students train with professional post-production tools including Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve, while completing hands-on editing projects and receiving feedback designed to strengthen both technical and creative decision-making.

Throughout the program, students explore:

  • Professional editing workflows in Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve

  • Editing theory, visual storytelling, pacing, performance, and scene construction

  • Hands-on editing projects with instructor feedback and critique

  • Professional media organization and post-production workflow

  • Color correction and finishing fundamentals

  • The evolving role of AI and AI-assisted tools in professional post-production

  • Building a professional editing reel

  • Resume, cover letter, website, and interview preparation

  • Freelance rates, professional etiquette, and working with clients and collaborators

  • Career pathways and expectations inside professional post-production environments

  • Direct interaction with working editors and industry professionals

  • The option to pursue Avid Certified Specialist certification

Students leave the program with more than classroom experience. The goal is to develop a professional reel, stronger technical skills, an understanding of the editorial process, and a practical roadmap for entering the industry.

Preparing Editors for an AI-Driven Industry

Artificial intelligence is already changing the way editors organize footage, search media, create transcripts, build rough assemblies, extend shots, and perform repetitive production tasks.

Rather than avoiding these developments, the Six Week Intensive examines the latest AI and AI-assisted editing technologies as part of a larger professional workflow.

Students learn where AI can accelerate the editorial process—and, equally important, where an editor’s judgment remains essential.

Story structure, performance, emotion, pacing, collaboration, taste, and knowing why and when to make a cut cannot be reduced to simply knowing how to operate software. MEWShop’s approach is to prepare students to use emerging technology intelligently while continuing to develop the creative and interpersonal skills that professional editors bring to a production.

As tools evolve, understanding the craft becomes even more important.

A Starting Point for a Career in Editing

Breaking into film and television editing requires far more than watching tutorials or becoming proficient with an application.

New editors must understand how professional projects are organized, how editors collaborate with directors and producers, how footage moves through a post-production pipeline, how creative notes are addressed, and how to present themselves when pursuing their first professional opportunities.

The Six Week Intensive brings these pieces together in one concentrated program.

Students work in a structured professional environment, receive regular critique, develop portfolio material, learn from experienced instructors and visiting professionals, and gain an understanding of what will be expected of them as they begin pursuing work in post-production.

For aspiring editors, career changers, recent graduates, and filmmakers looking to move into professional post-production, the program is designed to help bridge the often difficult gap between learning how to edit and becoming a working editor.
