Manhattan Edit Workshop Celebrates 100 Google Reviews and a 4.9-Star Rating

New York City post-production training school marks the milestone with more than two decades of hands-on education, industry access, and career-focused training for editors and filmmakers

NEW YORK, NY — August 18, 2026Manhattan Edit Workshop (MEWShop), New York City’s professional training school for film editing and post-production, has reached a major milestone: more than 100 Google reviews with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars.

The school is proud of the 4.9. It also has some questions about the missing 0.1.

More importantly, the milestone represents hundreds of students who have come through MEWShop to develop professional editing skills, learn industry-standard software, strengthen their creative craft, and prepare for careers in film, television, documentary, advertising, digital media, and content creation.

“One hundred Google reviews at 4.9 stars is genuinely humbling,” said Josh Apter, Founder of Manhattan Edit Workshop. “When I started MEWShop, the goal was simple: give people the real skills they need to work in this industry—not just theory, but the hands-on craft and professional knowledge that can help someone build a career. Having so many students take the time to publicly share their experiences tells us we’re doing something right. As for the 4.9, we’re choosing to see that as motivation.”

More Than Two Decades of Professional Post-Production Training

Founded in New York City, Manhattan Edit Workshop has trained thousands of editors, filmmakers, producers, assistant editors, colorists, and content creators.

From its training center at 119 West 23rd Street in Manhattan, as well as through live online and customized corporate instruction, MEWShop offers hands-on education designed around the tools, techniques, and workflows used in professional post-production.

The school is a New York State licensed private career school and provides professional training in industry-standard platforms including Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve.

“What makes reaching 100 reviews meaningful isn’t really the number—it’s what those reviews represent,” said Jason Banke, President of Manhattan Edit Workshop. “Each one comes from somebody who trusted us with their education. Some wanted to begin a career in editing. Some were already working professionals who needed to expand their skills. Others wanted to finally master a program they had been trying to learn on their own. Helping people make that next step is why we’re here.”

The Six Week Intensive: Learning to Become an Editor

At the center of MEWShop’s career training is its Six Week Intensive in the Art and Technique of Editing, a full-time program designed for people serious about developing the technical and creative foundation required for professional post-production.

Students receive hands-on training in Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve, while also studying the art and theory of editing across narrative filmmaking, documentary, comedy, short-form content, and other forms of visual storytelling.

Rather than simply learning where tools and commands are located, students edit projects, screen their work, receive critiques, develop a professional reel, and learn how creative decisions involving performance, pacing, structure, sound, and story shape a finished piece.

A defining part of the program is MEWShop’s Artist in Residence series, which gives students direct access to accomplished professional editors and filmmakers. Artists in Residence discuss their careers and creative processes, screen student work, provide feedback, and offer perspectives on what it takes to work professionally in today’s industry.

The next Six Week Intensive begins September 14, 2026.

Professional Courses for Editors and Content Creators

In addition to the Six Week Intensive, Manhattan Edit Workshop offers individual courses and workshops for beginners, experienced professionals, and organizations looking to expand their post-production capabilities.

Training includes Avid Media Composer fundamentals and advanced workflows; Adobe Premiere Pro; Adobe After Effects; DaVinci Resolve editing and color grading; Final Cut Pro; and specialized post-production and production workflows.

Courses are available in person in New York City and live online, allowing students outside New York to receive instructor-led training and feedback.

Customized Corporate and Group Training

MEWShop also provides custom corporate training for production companies, broadcasters, agencies, marketing departments, universities, media organizations, and creative teams.

Programs can be customized around an organization’s existing software, workflow, content, and skill level. Training can take place at Manhattan Edit Workshop’s New York City facility, live online, or on-site at a client’s location.

The goal is the same as MEWShop’s individual training: practical instruction that teams can immediately apply to real-world production and post-production work.

Beyond the Classroom: Building a Filmmaking Education Community

Over the years, Manhattan Edit Workshop has also developed an extensive library of filmmaking and post-production education that extends far beyond its classrooms.

Through Sight, Sound & Story, MEWShop brings audiences into conversations with accomplished editors, cinematographers, sound professionals, directors, and other filmmakers responsible for acclaimed film and television projects.

Talking MEWShop explores careers, technology, creativity, and the changing post-production industry through conversations with editors, filmmakers, technology leaders, alumni, and other creative professionals.

Through Filmmaker U, MEWShop provides additional educational programming and masterclasses featuring established professionals sharing the techniques, creative decisions, and experiences behind their work.

The Manhattan Edit Workshop YouTube channel has grown into an extensive archive of filmmaking education, featuring professional interviews, editing discussions, tutorials, career conversations, event excerpts, and behind-the-scenes insights into the craft of post-production.

“We’ve spent years building something that goes well beyond a traditional training school,” Banke said. “Between our classes, events, interviews, masterclasses, podcasts, and online videos, we’re creating a resource where people can continue learning from working professionals throughout their careers.”

Careers Are Built Through Craft, Practice, and Community

Despite enormous changes in filmmaking technology, MEWShop’s philosophy has remained remarkably consistent: software is important, but knowing why and when to make an editorial decision is what ultimately makes someone an editor.

“Our students aren’t coming here just to watch tutorials,” Apter said. “They want interaction. They want to ask questions. They want someone who has actually done the work to look at what they’re doing and help them understand how to make it better. Technology changes constantly. That kind of education doesn’t.”

The school's 100-review milestone reflects the students and alumni who have helped build that community over more than two decades.

A Thank You to the MEWShop Community

Manhattan Edit Workshop thanks its students, alumni, instructors, Artists in Residence, industry partners, event guests, and members of the post-production community who have supported the school, recommended its programs, participated in its events, and shared their experiences.

“We wouldn’t be here without the people who trusted us with an important part of their careers,” Apter said. “Every student who learned something here, every graduate who landed an opportunity, every professional who came back to share what they know, and everyone who took the time to leave us a review helped build this place. We’re incredibly grateful.”

And that remaining 0.1?

There’s always room for one more edit.
